Herbert A. Young


Herbert A. Young, 87, of Springfield, died Tuesday November 11, 2008 in his residence after a short courageous battle with cancer.

He was born April 25, 1921 in Miami County, Ohio, the son of Albert D. and Sibyl L. (Trostel) Young.

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-two years, Ruth Y. (McClure) Young; son, Richard (Penny) Young of Springfield; two daughters, Jane Engle of Clifton and Joyce (Mike) McIntyre of Dublin, Ohio; five grandchildren, Stuart Young, Elizabeth (Robert) Stokes, Kristin, Kevin and Kayla McIntyre; great-granddaughter, Lydia Stokes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Florence (Max) Merritt.

He was a member of Central United Methodist Church for sixty-two years. Herbert was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base Hawaii during World War II, worked for Parker Lawn Sweeper for nineteen years and retired from Wright-Patterson Air Base. He enjoyed traveling and working on the family farm.

A gathering of family and friends will be held 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday November 15, 2008, with Pastor Julie Carmean officiating.

Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 102 W. High Street, Springfield, Ohio 45502 or Community Mercy Hospice, 1343 N. Fountain Blvd, Springfield, Ohio 45504.
