William R. Thornburg


William R. "Bill" Thornburg, 82, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord on Thursday June 28, 2007 in his residence with his wife at his side. He was born January 17, 1925 in Springfield, Ohio, the son of William F. and Gertrude (Pfister) Thornburg.

He served his country during World War II with the United States Army. Bill was an auctioneer in his early years and later worked for and retired from Dresser Airtool Manufacturing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved his family and his church. Bill was an active member of Westside Christian Community Church for 47 years. He loved to socialize with neighbors, friends and with his brothers and sisters at the church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Jean (Bennett) Thornburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Ben Reyes, Janet and David Webb; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Jacquie Thornburg all of Springfield; two sisters, Kathryn Fry of Pennsylvania and Martha McConnhea of California; brothers, Thomas Thornburg of Springfield; two grandchildren, Lisa (Todd) Tillberry and Julie (Danny) Swank; three great-grandchildren, Justin Tillberry, Tyler Tillberry and Alexander Swank. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Aric Thornburg, four sisters and three brothers.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be held Monday July 2, 2007 at 11 a.m. in Westside Christian Community Church, 1335 Maiden Lane, Springfield, with Pastor Costy Saba, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Westside Christian Community Church Building Fund, 1335 Maiden Lane, Springfield, Ohio 45504.
