John A. Snyder

John A. Snyder, 89, of Springfield passed away in Miami Valley Hospital August 12, 2008 as a result of an auto accident. He was born November 18, 1918 in Springfield the son of the late Alvin and Mary (Cox) Snyder.

He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma and sisters Mary Katherine Snyder and Ann Strong.

He is survived by his son Steven A. Snyder, his wife Susan and their children Devon and Brian; and by his daughter Karen Heskett, her husband Jon and their sons Aaron and Ryan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

John had many roles in his 89 plus years on earth: son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, pharmacist and friend. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, enlisted in the United States Army, survived Pearl Harbor and served the duration of WWII. Jon then earned his degree as a Pharmacist from the University of Cincinnati and returned to Springfield to practice his profession. He brought dedication and compassion to all of his endeavors and interactions. Above all else, his greatest role was as a grandfather. He played an integral part in all of his grandchildren's lives. Rides in little red wagons, hikes in the woods, homemade obstacle courses and lessons in the finer points of shooting pool all fostered enduring bonds and provided the best lessons for how to live a very good life.

Friends may call Saturday from 12 noon-1PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 PM in the Memorial Home with Pastor Carol Gesalman officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
