Gerry Lee Jenkins


Gerry Lee Jenkins, 70, of Springfield, died Monday morning, March 10, 2008 in the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Dayton following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Sciotoville, Ohio on November 18, 1937 the son of Russell H. and Jean Alice (McCarty) Jenkins.

He served his country in the United States Air Force. Gerry retired from Dallas-Mavis Trucking Company. He was a member of H.S. Kissell Lodge 674 F. & A.M. and the Dulcimer Club. Gerry had a great love for music and played several instruments including the guitar, banjo, Irish tin whistle, dulcimer, and harmonica.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Jane (Parker) Jenkins; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Jennifer Jenkins of Greenville, Ohio; a sister, Judith Ann Miller of Sciotoville; six grandchildren, Shane (Ronelle) Jenkins, Ashley (Ben) Vonderheide, Michael Tyler Smith, Elizabeth and Morgan Kitchen, and Emma Jenkins; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tambra Smith; a granddaughter, Erin Jenkins; a sister, Helen Purdy; and two brothers, George and Ralph Jenkins.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, 830 N. Limestone St., Springfield.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Rev. Buddy Tuttle officiating.

Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum
