Beatrice E. Hawkins


Beatrice E. Hawkins, 85, of Mount Vernon, Ohio and formerly of Springfield passed away Friday afternoon, June 20, 2008 in the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

She was born July 15, 1922 in London, Ohio, the daughter of Lewis and Edna (England) Payne.

Beatrice was a member of the First Baptist Church in Springfield for over 60 years. She was also a member of the Ohio Eastern Star and was a past MCO (Mighty Chosen One) of the Khana Shahar Caldron. She was a partner in the family business, J.M. Hawkins Electrical Service and was also very active in her son's scouting experiences including serving as a Den Mother of Cub Scout Pack 22. Beatrice and her late husband Marion were also active in the Antioch Shrine Campers and the WBCCJ Airstream Association.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce E. and Jill Hawkins of Mount Vernon, Ohio; sister, Bertha Reed of Urbana, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Patricia Hawkins of Springfield; five grandchildren and spouses, Brad Hawkins of Hilliard, Ohio, Kent (Tonya) Hawkins of Powell, Ohio, Bryan (Cheryl) Hawkins in Southeast, Asia, Jennifer (Chad) Gooding of Canton, Ohio and Todd (Kelly) Hawkins of Mount Vernon, Ohio and one great-grandson, Noah Gooding.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 64 years James Marion Hawkins Sr. in November of 2003; her son, James Marion Hawkins Jr.; brothers, James and Donald Payne and sister, Rosella Payne.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Ken Whitt officiating.

Burial will follow in the Ferncliff Cemetery.
