Verna Ellen Dobie


Verna Ellen Dobie, 83, of Springfield passed away Sunday Dec. 16, 2007.

She was born Dec. 4, 1924 in Springfield, OH a daughter of Harrison Giles and Mary Louise (Wagner) Callicoat.

Verna had work at the telephone company during WWII. She had been very active in the election process by working the polls at Bushnell Elementary. She had also been a Brownie Leader at the school. She was past chief of the Red Star Temple 397 Pythian Sisters and the Blue Star Mothers where she held several positions in each. Verna was a caregiver to her family and friends. She watched over her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her husband for many years. Her family and friends will sadly miss her.

Verna is survived by her children, Paul "Ed" (Jan) Dobie of Springfield, Robert E. (Sheila) Dobie of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Frank (Dorothy) Dobie; sister-in-laws, Charlotte Gilliam, Maude Couch; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, Raymond E. Dobie; one grandson, Thomas Edward Dobie; four brothers, Virgil, Floyd, Harry and Edward Callicoat; two sisters, Eileen Bowdle and Edna Mental.

Visitation will be held 5-8pm Friday December 21, 2007 with a Pythian Sisters service at 7pm in the JACKSON LYTLE WILLIAMS Funeral Home, where service will be held 10am Saturday Dec. 22, 2007 with Rev. Dr. Julie Carmean officiating. Interment in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
