Barbara A. DeWitt


Barbara A. DeWitt, 84, of Springfield, died at 8:57 a.m. on Wednesday in Mercy Medical Center.

She was born December 14, 1923 in Springfield, the daughter of Ludwig and Anna Barbara (Schenk) Haas.

She had been employed as a supervisor for Clark County Human Services for 30 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Willing Workers Club of St. John's Church, a former member of Springfield Business and Professional Women's Club and attended Wittenberg University.

She is survived by one nephew, Douglas (Gloria) Weimer, Springfield; grand nephew, Matthew Weimer; step children, Judith Ann Jones, Sandra Collins, Richard (Paula) DeWitt, Larry DeWitt, a cousin, Terry McNeal, one aunt, Alice Mentges and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband George Ash, second husband John Rodgers and third husband Clifford DeWitt in 1999, two sisters, Lillian Weimer and Helen Chaney, a brother Arthur Haas and two nephews, Wayne Chaney and Neil Chaney.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday in the Conroy Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home with Pastor John Pollock officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church.
