Paulene May Burcham

Paulene May (Miller) Burcham, 83, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend died after a short illness on Saturday, December 1, 2007, at 12:20 a.m., in Mercy Medical Center. She was born on May 31, 1924, in Myra, West Virginia, the daughter of Nella and E.G. Miller. She graduated from Windsor High School in Lawrence County, Ohio, and moved to Springfield after marrying.

Pauline was employed for more than 25 years by Johnson's Box Lunch at Ranco Corporation in Plain City, Ohio. She then was employed for 8 years as the Deputy Recorder at the Clark County Recorder's Office, serving under Mrs. Miriam Yeazell, Recorder. When Mrs. Yeazell retired, Pauline was elected in November 1980 as the Clark County Recorder. She served two terms and retired December 31, 1988. She was responsible for initiating and implementing the computerization of public records housed at the Recorder's Office.

Pauline was active in the Ohio Retired Recorder's Association, American Business Women's Association, IOOF Rebekkah Lodge, Clark County Credit Union, Clark County Republican Party and the Lagonda United Methodist Church.

However, her biggest joy was her family, especially seeing her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews grow and mature. She attended baptisms, birthdays, ball games and horseshows. She was always available to baby sit and the children always looked forward to going to Mam's house. She was a terrific cook and always kept her family well fed, whether it was at her house or at one of the many family potlucks. She loved to travel with her sisters, Glenna and Patsy, and her niece, Cindy. She also looked forward to spending time and having fun with long time friends, Dick and Betty and Della. Pauline's smile and sense of humor were contagious. She will be missed by family and friends, especially at her Memorial Day birthday and Christmas parties, where she was the center of attention.

Pauline is survived by her son, Sam (Barbara) Burcham; her grandsons, Brock (Lori) Burcham, Grant (Kristen) Burcham, Jeff Burcham, and Shawn (Debbie) Walls; thirteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Glenna (Walter) Laughlin, Patsy Burcham; nieces and nephews, Cindy Burcham, Vicki (Dustin) Walters, Barry (Tammy) Laughlin, Kelli (Bill) Dunn, Roxann (Mark) Lookabaugh, Rex (Terry) Miller, Rusty (Lindy) Miller, Ricky (Judy) Miller; 14 great nieces and nephews; and former husband and good friend, Stanley Burcham. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Leo, Lyle and Thomas Miller, and her daughter, Sue Ann Burcham Walls Linville.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, December 3, from 4-7 p.m. at the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME and one hour prior to the services which will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in Lagonda United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Held officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lagonda United Methodist Church, 2030 Mitchell Blvd., Springfield, Ohio 45503, Community-Mercy Health Partners Hospice, 1343 Fountain Blvd., Springfield, Ohio 45504, or the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank Dr. Boor and Dr. Ranganathan for their supportive care. They also want to thank the nursing staff in the ER, ICU and especially 4 South, for their kind, professional and supportive care of both Pauline and her family. They also would like to recognize the professionalism, caring and availability of the in-patient hospice coordinator/staff.
