John S. Bryan


John S. Bryan, 91, of Springfield passed away Wednesday morning, January 2, 2008 in the Ohio Masonic Home.

He was born November 9, 1916 in Sidney, Ohio, the son of Stanley and Vida (Staley) Bryan. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1935.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lucille (Drum) Bryan; daughters, Judy (Bill) Banks of Fairborn, Ohio and Vicki (Phil) McClurkin of Findlay, Ohio; son, John T. (Linda) Bryan of North Port, Florida; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Kramer of Chicago, Illinois and Kay Taylor of Cape Coral, Florida and brother, William Bryan of Hilton Head, South Carolina.

John worked as a photoengraver at the Springfield News & Sun, Crowell Collier Publishing Company and was one of the original members of Springfield Gravure. He and his wife owned and operated John S Bryan Photographers in Springfield. After retiring, he volunteered for over 20 years as a photographer for the Ohio Masonic Home where he and his wife lived for many years. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church for over 60 years as well as a member of Anthony Masonic Lodge, Past High Priest of Shawnee Chapter, Springfield Council, Honorary Past Commander of Palestine Commandery, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Antioch Shrine, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Norris Chapter of Eastern Star, Elks Lodge, Kentucky Colonel, Professional Photographers of Ohio and Professional Photographers of America.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Ohio Masonic Home with Reverend Howard Benson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Masonic Home, Benevolent Endowment Foundation, Five Masonic Drive, Springfield, Ohio 45504.
