M. Elizabeth Brooks


M. Elizabeth "Betty" Brooks, 84, of Springfield died Sunday, August 31, 2008 in Villa of Springfield following several years of failing health. She was born June 14, 1924 in Shelbyville, Indiana the daughter of Clarence and Jesse Ann (Abel) Cayton and was raised by foster parents Woody and Olive Mohr.

Betty enlisted in the United States Navy and served in WWII, then worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base for ten years. She was a member of Central Christian Church and Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 13.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Brett and Barbara Brooks of Urbana; one step daughter Laura Lynn Brooks of Middleton, Ohio; one sister Mary Snyder of Shelbyville, Indiana; one grandson Daniel Brooks of Urbana; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lorie E. Brooks in 2005; two brothers Wayne and Joe Cayton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 PM. in the chapel at Oakdale Cemetery with Rev. Grant Cordell officiating. Friends may call in the chapel from 12:30-1:00 PM. The family is being served by the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME.
