Marion M. Abbey


Marion M. Abbey, 93, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord, Monday morning, September 13, 2010 in the Oakwood Village Glaesner Care Center. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 29, 1916 the daughter of the late Charles S. and Rosa (Burke) Sampson.

Marion owned and operated Marianne's Sewing Center in Urbana for many years and was later a realtor for Glenn Lauver Realty, Springfield, receiving top honors for sales. A 46 year member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, she served on and chaired numerous committees. She was a member of the Springfield Garden Club and Business and Professional Women's Club and served as president as well as other positions within the clubs. Marion loved to play bridge and traveled worldwide on many trips with her children.

She is survived by her five children, Vincent A. (Peggy) Abbey Jr. of Springfield, Barbara F. Fields of Woodstock, Charles M. Abbey of Springfield, Jay L. (Shawn Paige) Abbey of Springfield, and Allan S. (Christina) Abbey of Palm Harbor, Florida; thirteen grandchildren, Katherine, Eleana, Annaleis, Adrien, Sonja, Brent, Shawn, Diana, Tim, Andrew, and a loving and devoted grandson, Dan; nine great grandchildren; and a cousin, William (Betty) Moesta of Mississippi.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent A. Abbey Sr. in 1987.

Marion's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Raymond Stewart officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 201 N. Limestone St., Springfield, Ohio 45502.
