Dennis Ray Arthur


Dennis Ray Arthur, 65, of Rockwall, Texas and formerly of Springfield passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2007 in the Lake Point Medical Center in Rockwall after losing his battle with cancer.

He was born on May 14, 1942 in Portsmouth, Ohio, the son of the late Vernon Elmer and Elsie Mae (Westwood) Arthur.

Dennis played football for PHS and later at Stevens Point where he graduated in 1965. He volunteered for service in the U.S. Army and received training as a Green Beret. After a year in Vietnam, holding the rank of 1st Lieutenant, he then returned to his civilian career and settled in Springfield, Ohio, where he married and eventually hired on at International (Harvester) Truck & Engine. He reached the level of Director and in recent years, his work took him to Canada, Mexico and the many plants in the U.S. Dennis was always active in sports and either coached or helped other coaches in grade school through high school. In 1996 he was inducted into the Wisconsin State University at Stevens Point Athletic Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife, Jamie (Beckel) Arthur and three children in Springfield, Mark Thomas Arthur, Tanya Maye (Arthur) West and Heidi (Ebersole) Gearhart as well as two brothers, Robert Eugene Arthur and Charles Howard Arthur both of Portsmouth, Ohio.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2007 from 3-5 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 3, 2007 at 1 p.m. in the Central Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Ohio. Inurnment will follow in the Memorial Burial Park with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Central Baptist Church, 1646 Highland Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.
