Robert W. "Bob" Wray


Robert W. "Bob" Wray, 90, of Springfield, died at 9:50 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2007 in Eaglewood Village Care Center.

He was born February 8, 1917 in Champaign County, Ohio the son of Elmer and Iza (Mumford) Wray.

Bob retired in 1983 as superintendent of maintenance for Cooper Energy after 12 years of service. Prior to that, he worked 32 years for Thompson Grinder. He also worked for Hays Fabricating throughout the years, finally retiring at the age of 88.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he served on the building committee for St. John's Center and Oakwood Village and served on church council for 32 years with 18 years as the president. Bob was a member of the Exchange Club, Springfield Management Club, Knights of Pythias, Clark Lodge F. & A.M., Junior Achievement for 20 years and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

He is survived by three daughters and spouses, Sandra (Paul) Brunton of Hutto, Texas, Marsha (Bruce) Stoner and Bobbi J. Wray all of Springfield; 5 grandchildren, Douglas Brunton, Alicia Gebert, Shane, Christopher and Michelle Dement; 5 great grandchildren and his brother and spouse, Harry (Gertrude) Wray of Casstown, Ohio. His wife, Dorothy L. "Dottie" in 1997 and a sister, Marguerite Wion, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday in Conroy Funeral Home with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church.
