Jerry E. Wheeler


Jerry E. Wheeler, 56, of Springfield, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2008 in his residence following a brief, courageous battle with brain cancer.

He was born in Roanoke, Virginia on December 16, 1951, the son of Henry E. and Irene (Wells) Wheeler. Jerry was a graduate of Virginia Tech and a member of their Alumni Association. He was a True Hokie! Jerry was employed by Cooper Cameron for 25 years and Honda of America for the past seven years. Jerry enjoyed traveling, biking, camping and a glass of wine in his hot tub.

Jerry leaves to cherish his memory special friend of 15 years, David L. Boldman of Springfield; daughter, Stacey (Israel) O'Quinn of Virginia; mother, Irene Wheeler Hunt of Salem, Virginia; brother, Neil W. (Carole) Wheeler of Chester, Virginia; two nieces, Betsy and Angela; great niece, Julie Grace; special friends, Steve (Theresa) Parham of Springfield, Beth Adair, Heather Barnhart, Ann Hall, the entire Boldman family of Urbana and Jerry's special caregivers, Katie and Judith .

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry E. Wheeler and his step-father, Frank Hunt. Jerry had a beautiful smile and will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. His funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday in Lotz Funeral Home, Salem, Virginia. Visitation there will be two hours prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.

Memorial donations may be made to Community Mercy Hospice.
