Samuel Harrison Staten


Samuel Harrison Staten, 90, of Springfield, passed away at 7:26 PM Friday, September 14, 2007 in his residence.

He was born April 24, 1917 in Wellston, Ohio the son of John and Ida Staten. Mr. Staten was retired as the grounds maintenance supervisor at Wittenberg University following 28 years of service. Survivors include one son John (Wanda Hammond) Staten, four grandchildren: Ronda (Michael) Kenley, Justin Lee Scott, Kendria Hammond and TaShaunna Hammond all of Springfield, five great grandchildren: Sara Kenley, Craig Kenley, Iniko Jones, Aijane Cartwright and Eric Lewis Jr.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann (Cook) Staten, a daughter Linda Sue Downing, a granddaughter Robin Downing and two brothers Albert and George Staten.

Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the funeral home with Pastor Darrell Craycraft officiating. Burial will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery.
