George Allen Shipley


George Allen Shipley, 73, of Springfield passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008 in his home following several months of illness.

He was born July 10, 1935 in Oldtown, Ohio the son of Donald Shipley and Esther (Stafford) Shipley Lapple.

Mr. Shipley worked in the Agricultural Industry with Sweet Manufacturing, then had a second career as a driver for Celedon Trucking. George was a loving husband to his wife and partner of fifty-three years Ann (Melvin) Shipley of Springfield. He was a dedicated father and grandfather to one son and daughter-in-law Ron A. and Noelle Shipley of Springfield; one daughter and son-in-law Teresa A. and Rick Law of Lucasville, Ohio; four grandchildren Timothy Allen Hensley, Seth Shipley, Paige Shipley and Dustin (Chris) Law; three great grandchildren Cathal Allen Hensley, Nolan Law and Arabella Law. George is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law Terry and Betty Lapple of Arkansas, and Jack and Betty Roberts of Springfield; seven sisters and three brothers-in-law Barbara and Dick Reynolds of Xenia, Vickie and Greg Hensley of Florida, Debbie Snell, Marilyn and Dave Chidester and Lela Spencer all of Springfield, Donna Paxson of Paulding, Ohio and Rosie Vititoe of South Charleston; one aunt Bernita Shipley; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Ruth Shipley and daughter Tina A. Shipley.

The family will receive visitors Monday from 5-8 PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME and for one hour prior to services in the church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 PM. in the Grace Missionary Baptist Church, 427 S. Hubert Ave., with Pastor Orbie Estep officiating. Burial will be in Enon Cemetery.

The family would like to extend "Special Thanks" to Debbie Snell for her support during our time of need. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Shipley's name to Community/Mercy Hospice.
