Eugene Steinman


Eugene "Gene" Steinman, 82, of Springfield, died at 11:20 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2008 in Mercy Medical Center.

He was born November 2, 1925 the son of Charles and Blanche (Hayes) Steinman.

He had been employed as a stock locater for Navistar. Gene was a member of St. Raphael, a former member of St. Mary's serving as an altar boy and later as an usher and greeter. He was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. In his retirement Gene enjoyed taking many long walks in Snyder Park over the past twenty-five years.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary Louise (Maute); one daughter and spouse, Debra & Steve Taylor, all of Springfield; one granddaughter and spouse, Stephanie & Chris Monroe, London, Ohio and three cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles in 1979.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association or to St. Vincent DePaul. Arrangements by CONROY FUNERAL HOME.
