Eleanor S. (Betty) Snow


Eleanor S. "Betty" Snow, 85, of Huber Heights, OH formerly of Springfield, died at 4:20 p.m. Monday October 15, 2007 in Miami Valley Hospital.

She was born March 29, 1922 in Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii to Orvel T. and Eleanor Arai (Hills) Shonk, Sr. She graduated in 1939 from Roosevelt High School in Honolulu, Phillips Commercial School in 1940 and Wright State University, Dayton, OH in 1982 with her Bachelors of Arts. Her first job was at the Honolulu Star Bulletin. Afterwards, with the U.S. Corps of Engineers.

In 1941 she married Allen C. Snow and was living at Hickham Field Housing during the Attack on Pearl Harbor. Betty retired in 1990 as secretary of the Anthropology and Sociology Department at Wright State University. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, C.L. of C. # 56, American Association of University Women, Eagles aerie 397 auxiliary, Planned Parenthood, Elderly United and the Huber Heights Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her 4 children, Bonnie (James) Roads, Union, OH, John Wayne (Kaye) Snow, Huber Heights, OH, Gregg A. (Patty) Snow, Sandusky, OH and Stephen Snow, Huber Heights, OH; daughters in law, Kathy (Jon) Rubach, Christine (Ray) Niebauer; 2 sisters, Gladys Fraser, Keanesburg, N.J. and Lois Jean Saunders, Wahiawa, HI; 3 cousins, Marguerite Peach, Kaneohe, HI, Robert J. (Jean) Lee, Maunawili, HI and Mildred M. Liebig, Nehalem, OR; 12 grandchildren, Patty (Carl) Lachey, Union, OH, Pamela (Jim) Fisher, Indianapolis, IN, Tim (Cheri) Snow, Marysville, OH, Michael (Angie) Snow, Baton Rouge, LA, Andrew (Iris) Snow, Brian (Jenn) Snow, Denver, CO, Mark Snow, Sandusky, OH, John Dennis (Roberta) Snow, Dayton, OH, Heather Snow, Denver, CO, Patrick Snow, Fullerton, CA, Emily and Savannah Snow, Denver, CO; 6 great grandchildren, Megan and Katie Lachey, Union, OH, Christian, Curran and Sienna Snow, Baton Rouge, LA and Elena Snow, Marysville, OH; dear friends, Tom and Ruth Waymire and Kiersen Wideman. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Allen C. Snow, Sr.; 2 sons, Allen C. "Chuck" Snow, Jr. and Dennis O. Snow; 2 brothers, O.T. "Tommy" (Chiseko) Shonk, Jr. and Edward "Boy" Shonk; a sister, Rebecca (Puanani) Ventura; brother in law, Sandy Saunders; her best friend, Kitty Shepard.

Friends may call in the Conroy Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday with C.L. of C. services at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church.
