Carol Jean Smart


Carol Jean Smart, 84, formerly of New Carlisle, passed away Sunday October 19, 2008 in Greenville, Ohio.

She was born February 15, 1924 in Montgomery County, Ohio the daughter of the late Lester & Beulah (Shoup) Neff. She was a Deacon at the New Carlisle Church of the Brethren, and was a member of the Dayton Women's Club.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Jack Smart; two sons, John E. and his wife Mary Lou Smart of Palmetto, Florida, Robert L. and his wife Sharon Kay Smart of New Carlisle; four grandchildren, William H. Smart, Thomas E. Smart, Catherine (Smart) Stewart & Todd Smart; six great grandchildren, Carlyle and Nikoline Smart, Sedona, Madeline, Andrew and John Stewart & Jon Smart; step mother, Thelma Neff; half sisters, Pamela Neff, Diana Ervin, half brother, Jerry Neff; three sisters, Marjorie Skillings, Grace Taynor & Joyce McKinney; brother, Jack Neff; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Timothy LaMar & Heather Marie Smart.

A gathering of family and friends will be held 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Friday October 24, 2008 in the Chapel at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville with services at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. William Kidwell officiating. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday at the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the New Carlisle Church of the Brethren with Dr. Andrew J.O. Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Medway Cemetery.
