Steward Ross


Steward Ross, 84, of Springfield, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 in Community Hospital, Springfield.

Steward was born February 19, 1923 in Flat Gap, KY in Johnson County, the son of the late Noah Steward Ross and Eliza (Travis) Ross. On April 12, 1947 he was united in marriage to Gloria Darleen (Ferguson) Ross, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters; Carol Lynn and Robert Thompson, and Deborah Lee and Wendell Grim; three sons, Steward David and Ethlyn, Joseph Denver and Teresa, and Timothy Denzel and Susanna all of the Springfield area; fifteen grandchildren: Robert John and Sandy Thompson, Gilda Rae and Wade Aumiller, Christopher and Lori Thompson, Jason Thompson, Dawn Whitacre, Thomas and Nikki Grim, Matthew Ross and fiancée Gillian, David John Ross, Andrew Ross, Noah and Kelli Ross, Hillary and Brandon Lough, Travis and Ritsa Ross, Joanna and Kevin Shuping, Ginny Ross and Jacob Ross; eleven great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ella Ross; a nephew, Kirk Ross; a niece, Eliza Huffman; and a host of family, church family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Steward was preceded in death by two brothers, John Denver Ross (1929) and Henry Clyde Ross (1987).

Steward was converted and baptized in October 1950 and became a member of the Straight Creek Church, Waverly, until 1967 when he moved his membership to Hickory Grove United Baptist Church. He was a deacon for over 50 years and was a former clerk for Hickory Grove Church as well. Steward served as the Recording Clerk for the Old Paint Union Association of United Baptists for 10 years. Steward was a graduate of Winchester High School, class of 1943, a US Tech Sergeant serving in the India Theater during World War II, and a tool maker for Morris Bean and Company in Yellow Springs, retiring in 1985 after 31 years.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 19, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the Hickory Grove United Baptist Church, Route 161 (between the intersections of South Parkview Road and Route 559) Mechanicsburg, Ohio with Elders Larry Salyers, Patrick Gilliland, and Todd Scheiderer officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, Ohio with military honors. Friends may call at the church Thurs. 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Steward's memory may be made to the Hickory Grove Church, c/o Todd Scheiderer, 17200 Kandel Road, Marysville, Ohio 43040. Adkins Funeral Home, Enon, is assisting Steward's family with his final wishes.
