Robert William "Bill" Roeth, Jr.


Robert William "Bill" Roeth Jr., 81 of Springfield, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2007.

He was born on August 10, 1926 in Springfield the son of Robert W. and Katherine (Spears) Roeth.

Bill served our country during World War II in the United States Army 2nd Division, 38th Infantry Anti-Tank Company from 1944-1946. After returning home to Springfield he began his education at then Wittenberg College completing his undergraduate and then master level degree in Education. Bill began his teaching and coaching career at what was then Enon High School. Later he became Principal at Greenon High School and retired as Assistant Superintendent of Mad River Green School District. In 1992 Bill was inducted in the Wittenberg University Athletic Hall of Honor for his accomplishments in Basketball, Track, and Baseball.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Greg Short of Springfield, two grandchildren, Ryan and Olivia Short, and sister, Marlene Donahue of Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-six years, Joan (Schenk) Roeth in 1996.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2005 from 5-8 pm in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME where the service will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm with Pastor Eric Mounts officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

The family wants to express their sincere appreciation to all Bill's caregivers, especially Iris, Jean, Keira, and Rachel for their loving support in recent months.

Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
