Bernard L. Ransbottom


Bernard L. Ransbottom, 89, of Springfield, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 6, 2008. Bernard was born on November 9, 1919, a son of Carl and Alice (Burkhart) Ransbottom.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bill (Vickie) Ransbottom of Dallas, GA; daughter, Lynn Ransbottom of Beavercreek; 5 grandchildren, Kyle (Josie) Rector and Erin Rector of Dayton, Jennifer (Dennis) Ransbottom Richards of Arcanum, and Erica Ransbottom and Heath Ransbottom of Dallas, GA; great-granddaughter, Raylea Richards; and brother, Robert Ransbottom.

He is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 67 years, Kathleen (Leitschuh) Ransbottom; son, Douglas Ransbottom; brother, Richard Ransbottom; and sister, Kathleen Ransbottom Cullen.

Bernard was a 1937 graduate of Springfield High School and was a veteran in the Army Air Force during WWII where he was a B25 Pilot. Bernard worked for 50 years in the printing business. He started his career at Crowell-Collier and worked there until 1956. He then worked at Springfield Gravure until 1978, finishing his career at Carpenter Lithographing and retiring in 1984. He was a 50 year member of the First Lutheran Church and had a passion for Square dancing which he did for 35 years with his late wife at S'Allamandes Dance Club. Bernard also had a life-long passion for bowling and golfing.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 from 4-7 PM at JACKSON LYTLE WILLIAMS Funeral Home- Springfield, with the funeral service on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 1 PM at the First Lutheran Church- 30 S. Wittenberg St, with visitation 1 hour prior to service. Pastor James Christian officiating. Interment to follow at Ferncliff Cemetery.
