Charles E. Nelson


Charles E. Nelson, 85, formerly of Springfield, died Friday August 22, 2008 in his son's residence in Sharpsville, Indiana. He was born February 26, 1923 in Logan, West Virginia, the son of William Cush and Dollie Emaline (Beckett) Nelson.

He served his country in the United States Navy. Charles retired from Navistar. He was active in the UAW Local 402 and after retiring served as a trustee in the retiree chapter.

Survivors include his son Charles D. "Salty" Nelson of Sharpsville, Indiana; five brothers and one sister; five grandchildren, Lisa Fording, Lori Nelson, Tyler Nelson, Brandelyn Nelson and husband Brock Hillman, Rhonda Nelleson and husband Ross; six great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Thelma; son Pat; three brothers.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday August 27, 2008, with Rev. Dan Coomer, officiating. Burial will be in Vale Cemetery.
