Gertrude "Trudy" Hayes


Gertrude "Trudy" Hayes, 84, of Springfield, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 5, 2007 in her residence.

She was born on April 10, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio the daughter of John and Mary Ann (Nicklin) Rafferty. She was a charter member of the Southgate Baptist Church where she was involved with AWANA and Child Evangelism. Trudy enjoyed collecting porcelain art pieces along with this hobby she was a member of the R. S. Prussia Club. Earlier in life she led many Brownie and Girl Scout troops. She retired from the Custodial Staff at Southgate, prior to that she worked as a Beautician and also in the family printing business.

She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Jo Moore of San Antonio, Texas, and Michele Sue "Shelli" Leen of Springfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce Alan and Violet Hayes; three grandchildren: Mark Douglas Hayes II, Heather and Chris Crowley, and Stacci Pack, seven great grandchildren: Ashley, Christopher, Breanna, Morgan, Jordan, Tyrell, and Elijah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest E. "Barney" Hayes, one son, Mark Douglas Hayes, three sisters: Kathryn Rafferty, Mabel Schwamm, and Rose McCormick, and two brothers, James and Robert Rafferty.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 in the Southgate Baptist Church, 2111 S. Center Blvd., Springfield. Friends may call one hour prior to the time of service. Burial will be in the Ferncliff Cemetery. The family is being served by the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.
