John R. Garringer
John R. "Jack" Garringer, 84, of Springfield, formerly of South Charleston, passed away at 7:58 AM Tuesday, August 5, 2008 in Mercy Medical Center.
He was born January 14, 1924 in Fayette County, Ohio, the son of George A. and Lulu (Martin) Garringer.
Jack was a former member of the Clark County School Board, the former Mayor of South Vienna, Past President of the South Charleston Community Club, Past Master of Fielding Lodge # 192 F&AM, a member of the American Legion Post # 176, South Charleston, and the Kiwanis Club. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy during World War II serving as a Chief Petty Officer in the Quartermaster Corp.
Jack was associated with Shoemakers Super Value Store in South Charleston for 45 years and was the owner for the last 25 of those years. He was also the owner of the Home Center in South Charleston.
He is survived by his loving family which includes his wife of 62 years, Roma Jean (Sheets) Garringer, three children; Dr. William (Carol) Garringer, Springfield, Dr. Jacqueline Garringer and spouse Steve Pischke, Middleburg, Virginia, and Michael A. (Patti) Garringer, South Charleston, grandchildren; Leigha Amanda (Kevin) Clapp, Brent Aaron (Debbie) Garringer, Olyvia Nicole Sanders, Conner William Garringer, Sydney Marie Garringer, Katherine Alexandra Pischke, Elizabeth Jordan Pischke, Leslie Merrill Pischke, Scott (Dawn) Florence, Leah (Carl) Davison, Megan Acton, Jodie Garringer and Robert Garringer, great grandchildren; Danicka Michelle Clapp, Anderson Joseph "AJ" Clapp, Zebulon Florence, Mason Florence, Nate Florence, Avery Davison, Isaac Davison, Satch Davison, Addison Davison, and Madelyn Acton, great great grand daughter Zoe Florence, several nieces and nephews and his precious dog Annie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Jeanne Williamson and a brother George M. Garringer.
Friends may visit with the family form 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Bruce Vincent officiating., Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in South Vienna Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association or to the charity of the donor's choice.
