Helen H. Groeber


Helen H. Groeber, 89, of Springfield died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, December 21, 2008 in her residence. She was born October 26, 1919 in Springfield, the daughter of John M. and Katherine (Berger) Hughes.

She graduated from Good Samaritan Nursing School, Cincinnati. She had been employed as a certified registered nurse anesthetist at both Community and Mercy Hospitals for forty years. She was a member of St. Raphael Church and a former Girl Scout leader. She was a devoted wife for fifty-two years and active in the lives of her children and grandchildren until her death. A cherished mother, she loved each of her unique children equally.

Survivors include five children, Katherine A. Groeber, Springfield, Michael J. (Connie Crockett) Groeber, Yellow Springs, OH, Helen P. (Guy) Pierson, Canal Winchester, OH, Margaret M. (Peter McCann) Groeber and Janet D. (Chuck Lohre) Groeber, Cincinnati; sister, Mary Jane Donnellan, Cincinnati; sister-in-law, Mannes Bumstead, San Antonio; five grandchildren Michael A. (Siri) Groeber, Elisabeth A. Groeber, Andrew J. Pierson, John M. "Jack" and Patrick J. McCann; son-in-law Robert L. Marcum; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Michael P., in 2000 and daughter Suzanne Marie Groeber, December 12, 2008 and two brothers, John and Charles and a sister, Elizabeth Woodhouse.

Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Conroy Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Raphael Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Best Friends Pet Assisted Therapy or St. Vincent dePaul Society.
