Grover C. Goode, Jr.


Grover C. Goode, Jr., 82, of Springfield passed away Sunday morning, February 24, 2008 in the Eaglewood Care Center.

He was born August 15, 1925 in Champaign County, the son of Grover C. Sr. and Nila J. (Slentz) Goode.

He attended Urbana Township School and served in the United States Navy from May 10, 1944 until Honorably Discharged in June 4, 1946. Grover was a member of the Moose Lodge #536, Machinist Club and Union Club. He was owner of the The Stein Café for 28 years.

Survivors include his three sisters, Myrtle (Bill) Pond, Doris Dunlap, both of Urbana and Ada (Rev. Charles) Burress of Springfield; special best friend and faithful loving caregiver, Betty J Cartmell of Springfield; three step-daughters, Patti (Bud) Hamilton of Florida, Karen (Tom) Adams and Jill (Bill) Moberg both of Springfield; five grandchildren, his beloved granddaughters, Jennifer (Dave) Jenkins, Jane (Dan) Baird; three grandsons, Chad (Rachel) Litteral and Steven and Nichalaus Moberg; many special friends and outstanding neighbors and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gertrude Goode and brother, Leland Daugherty.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 from 4-7 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Michael Parr officiating.

Burial will follow in the Ferncliff Cemetery with military honors.
