Elmer Garland Griffith


Elmer Garland Griffith, 97, of Springfield went to be the his Lord Thursday evening, September 13, 2007.

A resident of Dayspring in Enon, he was born January 2, 1910 in Honaker, Virginia, the son of Charles Bernard and Rhoda Rebecca (Watson) Griffith. Mr. Griffith was employed for many years by Omar Bakeries and retired from Schaeffer's Bakery. He loved to fish and was an avid bowler in the Springfield area. He was a member of Emery Chapel United Methodist Church where he served in various capacities over the years.

He is survived by daughter, Lois Anne (LeRoy "Roy") Miller of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Ethel J. Griffith of Fairborn; four grandchildren, Donald E. Griffith Jr. (Anya) of Stamford, Connecticut, Brian (Betty) Griffith and Erin Wells all of Fairborn, Chad (Michelle) Griffith of Maineville, Ohio; two step-grandchildren, Tangee (Dennis) Olinger of Dayton and Jamie Johnson of Fairborn; six great-grandchildren, Brooke and Brian Dunigan, Gabrielle, Gavin, Owen and Emma Griffith; five step-grandchildren, Mercedes, Brittany, Deborah, Abigail and Trevor Olinger. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; three sisters; his wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Bass) Griffith in December of 1998 and one son, Donald E. Griffith Sr. in June of 1985.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, September 17, 2007 from 5-8 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Emery Chapel United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service with Pastor Bill Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts may be made to Emery Chapel United Methodist Church, 3500 Springfield-Xenia Road, Springfield, Ohio 45506.
