Kay Waddle Fanning

Kay Waddle Fanning, 65, of Springfield, went home to be with the Lord on February 19, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Chagrin Falls where she was recovering from recent surgery.

She was born in Springfield on September 4, 1942 the daughter of Wilbur and Ethel (Foster) Waddle.

As a youth, Kay was active in 4-H, Junior Leadership, and Farm Bureau Youth. A graduate of Greenon High School and Wittenberg University in 1964, Kay was a business teacher at Shawnee High School, and Clark County Technical Institute. She was associated with 3M Corporation and was instrumental in writing a computer program which was used in the early days of computer technology.

In 1970, she left teaching and entered a very successful career in direct sales, most notably with Fashion Two-Twenty Cosmetics where she reached the position of Regional Franchise owner, managing a large number of sales associates.

Kay was a positive influence in the lives of all she knew and introduced many to the "power of positive thinking" to which she attributed her successful sales career.

In 1979 she battled breast cancer. For a short time thereafter while regaining her health, she taught at Cedarville College. She continued her sales career as owner of Leana International Cosmetics in 1982, and remained in direct sales of cosmetics and jewelry until she retired in 1997.

Kay loved travel, computers, photography, and most of all family and friends. Since retirement, she and her husband have pursued their mutual love of travel by spending their winters in Florida and Arizona.

Her love of education led Kay to follow in her father's footsteps as a member of the Clark County School Board for 27 years and simultaneously as a member of the JVS School Board for 21 years. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, Kith n' Kin Farm Bureau Council, and other professional organizations.

She has attended Emery Chapel United Methodist Church, Springfield, Grace Baptist Church, Cedarville, and Mountain View Nazarene Church in Tucson, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law.

She leaves her high school sweetheart and husband of 44 years, Robert H. Fanning; daughter, Leann (Eric) Peiffer of Chagrin Falls; sons, Shane (Amy) Fanning of Greeley, Colorado and Aaron Fanning of Denver, Colorado; brother, Bill (Sharon) Waddle of Springfield; mother-in-law, Ailene Fanning of Springfield; sister-in-law, Patsy (Dave) Barone; and brother-in-law, Gary (Carolyn) Fanning.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-6 p.m. Sunday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Jim Welch officiating.

Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
