Jessie J. Ferryman


Jessie J. Ferryman, 66, of Springfield, died Thursday evening, August 7, 2008 in Riverside Methodist Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Springfield on August 9, 1941 the daughter of Ishmael and Rose (Leonard) Collier.

Jessie was an avid softball fan, supporting Springfield City Recreation for many years. Her hobbies included going to the Riverboat casino, watching tennis, and working crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her loving mother, Rose L. Collier of Springfield; husband of 51 years, Howard W. Ferryman Jr.; son, Douglas Ferryman; daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Steve Patton; two grandsons, Travis Ray and Tyler Ferryman; and a great grandson, Dereck Ferryman, all of Springfield. Also surviving is a brother, James (Mary) Collier of Urbana; four sisters, Revona (Larry) Robinson of Quincy, Ohio, Victoria (Randy) Graves of Morgantown, North Carolina, Karen (Gary) Ferryman of Springfield, and Deborah (Kenny) Gable of Clarksville, Tennessee; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father in 1999 and a brother, Kenneth Collier in 1943.

Jessie's funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
