Dr. Ernst (Ernie) F. Fischer, O.D.


Dr. Ernst "Ernie" F. Fischer, O.D., 73, of Enon went to be with his Lord, Thursday, June 28, 2007 in Springfield.

He was born December 20, 1933 in Zanesville, Ohio to the late Ernst F. and Helen (Smith) Fischer. Ernie was a graduate of Ohio State University College of Optometry, and worked for Martin J. Cook, MD before beginning his solo practice in Enon.

He was a member of the following organizations; Enon United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee, Covenant Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder and a Deacon, Ohio Optometric Association since 1957, American Optometric Association, College of Optometric Visual Development, Behavioral Vision Project, Optometric Extension Program, Neuro Optometric Rehabilitation Association, Enon Lions Cub, Sauerkraut Band, Dixie Doodle Band, Sentimentalist Band, Enon Historical Society, and he was a Air Force Veteran.

Ernie is survived by his high school sweetheart, Marilyn (Wright) Fischer, with whom he just celebrated 48 glorious years of marriage on June 21, devoted daughter and son-in-law, Erika and Michael Snyder of Southlake, Texas, a mother-in-law, Edith Wright of Zanesville, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Judy Wright, a cousin and her husband, Linda and Fred Hummel of Nashport, Ohio, numerous nieces and nephews, a host of close and dear friends and loyal patients.

Funeral Service will be celebrated 10:30am Tuesday, July 3, 2007 in the Enon United Methodist Church, Enon with Pastor Chris Farmer and Pastor Jeff Mohr officiating. Burial will follow the service in Enon Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 Monday in Adkins Funeral Home, Enon.

In-lieu- of flowers donations may be made in Ernie's name to; Behavioral Vision Project care of the Optometric Extension Program, where the money will be used to establish the Project's first ever scholarship, Enon United Methodist Church and Enon Emergency Squad.
