Audrey W. Fields

Audrey W. Fields, 87, of Springfield, passed away in her home August 15, 2008. She was born May 20, 1921, in Bristol, England, to Alec and Winifred (Appleford) Pain.

Audrey met her husband Lester, an American G. I., at Tidworth Garrison in the Salisbury Plain in 1942 while serving as a corporal in the British Army Territorial Service. Audrey and Lester married May 28, 1945 in Swendon, England. She was able to join Lester in Springfield, Ohio, in 1946 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen on March 19, 1954. Although love and family brought her to the United States, which became her adopted country, her native land remained in her heart. She formed life-long friendships with members of her beloved British Commonwealth Club of which she was a charter member.

Audrey is survived by Lester, the love of her life for 63 years, and their two children; Wayne (Sita) Fields of Clearwater, Florida, and Rita Whip and her fiancee Larry Smith, grandsons; Scott (Angie) Whip and Brad (Jennifer) Whip of Springfield and Andy Fields of Seminole, Florida, great grandchildren; Miranda, Derek, Dane and Alexandra Whip of Springfield, brother William (Jo) Pain and his family and special cousins Kathleen Pain, Beryl Quinn, Shirley Smart and Millie Pain all of England, numerous members of Lester's family who loved her like one of their own including sister-in-law Thresa (Winston) Sandlin.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday in Ferncliff Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Rick Clos officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Mercy Hospice. Arrangements are being handled by the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME.
