Auda Thomas Ennis


Auda Thomas Ennis, 92, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008. Auda was born November 21, 1915 in Pine Top, Kentucky to James Monroe and Nancy (Pigman) Thomas.

Following graduation from Carr Creek High, she attended business school in Boston and worked in a factory that supplied devices for the Navy during World War II. She married Robert Ennis of Burlington, Vermont in 1945, moving to Dayton and later Springfield. Primarily a homemaker, Auda worked part-time, retiring from Springfield City Schools as a teacher's aide. A gentle lady of quiet sensibility and happy spirit, Auda was a most wonderful mother and grandmother. She excelled at cooking, quilting and crocheting. In later years, she kept her mind active with puzzle books and mystery novels. She remained in her own home due to devoted care by grandson, Jason.

Auda is survived by four children, Robert (Janet) Ennis, Jr., Donna (Ronnie) Stephenson, Gloria Ennis (Choon Moo Yang) and Thomas Ennis; Grandchildren, Jennifer (Bret) DeLong, Andrea Barker (Dennis Suggs), Tammy White, Trisha Ennis, Megan (Jonathan) Tarvin, Jason Ennis, Kenton (Natalie) Ennis, Michael Ennis and Jonathan Yang; Great grandchildren, RaeLonda, Brandon, Logan, Symone, Andrea, Alicia, DaWayne, Ayshia, Blake, Aubrey, Eli, Wyatt and Auda; Great- great granddaughter, Aneya; Two sisters, Nora Bates and Myrtle Spilker; brother, LaVernon Thomas and a number of nieces and nephews.

Auda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers and five sisters.

Her memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in Conroy Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Powell of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
