Robert E. Acton

Robert E. Acton, 85, of New Carlisle, passed away Saturday, August 22nd, 2009. He was born May 13, 1924 in Celina, OH, the sixth of seven children, to Joseph and Iva (Knisley) Acton.

Raised in Springfield, he spent many of his childhood years in the Springfield Childrens Home, and graduated from Springfield South High School in 1943. Immediately after graduation he enlisted in the US Navy, and was stationed in Chicago, Guam, and San Francisco during WWII. In 1945, he married Helen Ewanick of Evanston, IL., and they settled in the Springfield area.

He worked over 15 years for Bordens, delivering dairy products all around the Springfield area. He was also employed at Steel Products, International Harvester and Frigidaire. One of Bobs primary joys in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an avid Ohio State football fan, and often spent fall afternoons with family, rooting on the team.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Lawrence, Paul and Willard, and three sisters, Virginia, Irene and Phyllis. Also survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Helen; daughter Carol Metz of Centerville; son Mike and wife Debi of Springfield; son Steve and wife Linda of Toledo; daughter Robin Borasz and husband Frank of Huber Heights; and son Bill and wife Susan of Clarkston, MI; fifteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Hospice of Dayton and Hospice of the Dayton VA Medical Center for their gentle and caring assistance during his last days.

Private memorial services will be conducted for family at their convenience. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Dayton and to the Dayton VA Hospice Fund. Arrangements by the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to www.trostelchapman.com
