Early Springfield Ordinances

AN ORDINANCE

To prevent accidents from exhibition of fire works.

Sec. 1. The city council of Springfield ordain, That it shall be unlawful for any person or persons to throw, cast, or fire any rocket, in any part of this city, exceeding one pound in weight, the stick included, and any person offending against the provisions of this section shall, upon conviction thereof, pay a fine not exceeding ten dollars and costs.

Sec. 2. That no person or persons shall cause any balloon to ascend from any part of this city, (unless by a permit from the mayor) which shall be inflated or kept up by turpentine, spirits of wine, or by any other means than gas, under a penalty of ten dollars and costs.

Sec. 3. That any person or persons who shall wontonly or maliciously maim, injure, deface or destroy any tree or trees now planted, or that may hereafter be planted, shall be subject to a fine of not less than one dollar nor more than five dollars, to be paid into the city treasury for the use of the city.

Sec. 4. That all ordinances passed by the council of the town of Springfield for the preservation of trees, be, and are hereby repealed.

This ordinance to take effect from and after its publication.
